Overall design | In this study, microbial composition and function and gut-brain metabolic signatures in female cynomolgus macaque (Macaca fascicularis) displaying naturally occurring depressive-like behaviors were characterized. Cynomolgus monkeys were divided into the following 2 groups (n = 6 per group): (1) control group (cynomolgus macaques without depressive-like behavior), and (2) depression group (cynomolgus macaques with depressive-like behavior). Metabolite profiles of peripheral and brain tissue samples (feces, intestine, liver, serum, prefrontal cortex, hippocampus, and amygdala) were compared using both GC-MS and LC-MS. |
