Overall design | In this study, germ-free mice underwent fecal microbiota transplantation from major depressive disorder (MDD) patients and healthy controls. GF Mice were divided into the following 2 groups (n = 12 in each group): (1) control group (fecal microbiota transplantation with fecal sample from healthy controls), (2) depressed group (fecal microbiota transplantation with fecal sample from major depression patients). Behavioral tests verified the depression model. Metabolomics using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, nuclear magnetic resonance, and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry determined the influence of microbes on liver metabolism. |
