Title

Effects of Changyu Daotan Decoction on depression via restoration of mice hippocampus and alteration of expression of relevant neurotrophic factors

Overall design

The aim of this study was to investigate the therapeutic effect of Changyu Daotan Decoction in the chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) model of depression. ICR mice were divided into the following 4 groups (n = 10 in each group): (1) control group, (2) CUMS group, (3) CUMS + Changyu Daotan Decoction group (stressor plus Changyu Daotan Decoction treatment at the dose of 3.9 g/kg), and (4) CUMS + sertraline group (stressor plus sertraline treatment at the dose of 0.83 mg/kg). The CUMS stress procedure lasted for 3 weeks, and drugs were administered for 3 weeks after stress via intragastric. Three hippocampal samples per group were used for metabonomic analysis.
