Effects of Chang-Kang-Fang formula on the microbiota-gut-brain axis in rats with irritable bowel syndrome
Overall design
The aim of this study was to investigate the in vivo effects of Chang-Kang-Fang formula in alleviating irritable bowel syndrome and depression-like behavior caused due to chronic unpredictable stress (CUS). Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into the following 3 groups (n = 8 in each group): (1) control group, (2) CUS group, and (3) CUS + Chang-Kang-Fang formula group (stressor plus Chang-Kang-Fang formula treatment at the dose of 5.0 g/kg). The CUS stress procedure lasted for 3 weeks, and drugs were administered via intragastric once per day during the model building period. Six serum samples per group were used for metabolic profiling.
