Title | Matrine alleviates depressive-like behaviors via modulating microbiota-gut-brain axis in CUMS-induced mice |
Overall design | The aim of this study was to investigate the underlying mechanisms of matrine on the depression-like behavior of chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) mice model of depression. ICR mice were divided into the following 3 groups (n = 10 in each group): (1) control group, (2) CUMS group, and (3) CUMS + matrine group (stress with matrine treatment at the dose of 30 mg/kg). The CUMS stress procedure lasted for 6 weeks, and matrine was administered via intragastric once per day during the last 2 weeks of the model building period. The effect of matrine on gut metabolites was further explored using LC-MS-based metabolomics analysis (n = 8/group). |
