Title | Prostaglandin I2 suppresses the development of gut-brain axis disorder in irritable bowel syndrome in rats |
Overall design | The aim of this study was to clarify the mechanism of the effect of beraprost, a specific prostaglandin I2 agonist, in the maternal separation model. Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into the following 3 groups: (1) control group, (2) maternal separation group, and (3) maternal separation + beraprost group (maternal separation plus beraprost treatment at the dose of 1.0 mg/kg). During the period of postnatal days 2-14, maternal separation was performed for 3 hours per day. Then beraprost was given after maternal separation until 8-week. For evaluation of depression, the forced swimming test was performed at 7-week. The duration of the immobilizing time was significantly prolonged in the maternal separation group and was greatly shortened by beraprost administration. Serum metabolome analysis were performed for each group (n = 4/group). |
