Title | A preliminary metabolomic analysis of older adults with and without depression |
Overall design | Depressed subjects were treated by a study geriatric psychiatrist using a treatment algorithm. Samples were collected over a three-month period after differing lengths of participation in the study. The authors performed a GC-MS based metabolomic analysis was performed of blood plasma from depressed group (non-remitted patients, MADRS >= 14; n = 9), remitted group (remitted patients, MADRS <= 3; n = 11), and never-depressed older adults (control group; n = 10). Approximately 800 metabolites were analyzed, with comparisons made among the three groups. |
