Title

Semen Sojae Praeparatum alters depression-like behaviors in chronic unpredictable mild stress rats via intestinal microbiota

Overall design

The aim of this study was to explore the effect of Semen Sojae Praeparatum on rats with chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS)-induced depression. Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into the following 3 groups (n = 10 in each group): (1) control group, (2) CUMS group, and (3) CUMS + Semen Sojae Praeparatum group (stressor plus Semen Sojae Praeparatum treatment at the dose of 0.97 g/kg). The CUMS stress procedure lasted for 7 weeks, and Semen Sojae Praeparatum was administered via intragastric once per day during the last 4 weeks of model building period. Short-chain fatty acids concentrations in the stool sample of rats were measured by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.
