Title

Changes in brain metabolites related to stress resilience: metabolomic analysis of the hippocampus in a rat model of depression

Overall design

This study aimed to investigate the differences in the profiles of hippocampal metabolites between susceptible and resilient rats, and to identify a biomarker that can distinguish the two. Of the 39 rats, 21 were randomly allocated to the Stressed Group, and the remaining 18 were allocated to the unstressed Control Group. Stress-loaded rats were into susceptible and resilient types based on their sucrose preference values. Metabolomic analysis in the hippocampus were conducted (Control Group, n = 14; Resilient Group, n = 9; Susceptible Group, n = 8). The CMS stress procedure lasted for 4 weeks.
