Title

Tryptophan-kynurenine and lipid related metabolites as blood biomarkers for first-episode drug-naive patients with major depressive disorder: An exploratory pilot case-control study

Overall design

As an exploratory pilot case-control study, the authors examined the above blood biomarkers, and analyzed how these biomarkers are associated with clinical variables in first-episode drug-naive major depressive disorder (MDD) patients, based on metabolome/lipidome analysis. Plasma tryptophan and its related metabolites and plasma lipid species were measured in first episode first-episode drug-naive MDD patients (depression group, n = 15) and healthy controls (control group, n = 19) by liquid chromatography mass spectrometry.
