Title

Increase in the cerebrospinal fluid content of neurosteroids in patients with unipolar major depression who are receiving fluoxetine or fluvoxamine

Overall design

In this study, ALLO content was measured in four cisternal-lumbar fractions of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) before and 8-10 weeks after treatment with fluoxetine (0.27-1.5 mg per kg per day) or fluvoxamine (0.54-2.88 mg per kg per day) in 15 patients with unipolar major depression (depressed group). In addition, the CSF content of ALLO was also measured in 3 normal subjects (control group). Neurosteroids were quantified using GC/MS.
