Title

Amino acid neurotransmitters assessed by proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy: relationship to treatment resistance in major depressive disorder

Overall design

The objective of this study was to compare occipital cortex (OCC) and anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) GABA and glutamate + glutamine (Glx) levels measured by proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H MRS) in medication-free treatment-resistant depression (TRD, n = 15) patients with those in nontreatment-resistant MDD (nTRD group, n = 18) patients and healthy volunteers (control group, n = 24). Metabolite quantification was reported relative to brain water concentration.
