Title | Circulating C19 steroids and progesterone metabolites in women with acute depression and anxiety disorders |
Overall design | The aim of this study was to obtain data on alterations in circulating steroids and related substances such as gonadotropins and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) in female patients with acute depression and anxiety disorders, using quantification of the steroid metabolome in circulation by gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Twenty women with depression (depression group), 17 with anxiety disorders (anxiety group), 17 healthy controls (control group) were recruited. In addition to age-adjusted analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) followed by multiple comparisons, models were developed to successfully discriminate these groups from each other on the basis of steroid levels. |
