Title

Plasma L-tryptophan concentration in major depressive disorder: new data and meta-analysis

Overall design

The aims of the present study were 2-fold: to examine whether plasma tryptophan concentration is different between Japanese patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) and controls, and to perform meta-analysis on previous studies, to determine whether plasma tryptophan concentration is lowered in MDD patients. The case-control study included 66 patients with MDD (MDD group) and 82 healthy controls (control group). Plasma tryptophan concentration was measured using the liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC-MS).
