Title

Tryptophan catabolites and depression in the general population: results from the Gutenberg Health Study

Overall design

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship of peripheral tryptophan catabolites with depression in a large population-based cohort. A total of 2040 participants without depression (control group, PHQ-9 < 5) and 248 participants with depression (depression group, PHQ-9 >= 10) were included. The tryptophan catabolites in the plasma were analyzed by a qualified LC-MS/MS.
