Title

A preliminary comparison of plasma tryptophan metabolites and medium- and long-chain fatty acids in adult patients with major depressive disorder and schizophrenia

Overall design

The aim of this study was to determine the differences in tryptophan metabolites and the composition of medium- and long-chain fatty acids in adult patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) and schizophrenia. Metabolite levels in plasma samples from patients with MDD (MDD group, n = 24) and healthy controls (control group, n = 23) were analyzed. Tryptophan and its catabolites were detected by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, and medium and long-chain fatty acids were detected by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.
