Title

Laterality in functional and metabolic state of the bulbectomised rat brain detected by ASL and 1H MRS: a pilot study

Overall design

The aim of this study was to assess the brain metabolic state in the olfactory bulbectomy induced depression model. Wistar rats were divided into the following 2 groups: (1) control group (sham operation, n = 9), and (2) olfactory-bulbectomised group (bilateral ablation of the olfactory bulbs, n = 10). Three weeks after surgery, proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy was used to measure relative metabolite concentrations in the cortex and hippocampus. Metabolite quantification was reported relative to total creatine as the reference peak.
