Title | Biogeography of the large intestinal mucosal and luminal microbiome in cynomolgus macaques with depressive-like behavior |
Overall design | The aim of this study was to compare the biogeography of the large intestinal mucosal and luminal microbiome of cynomolgus chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) macaques and healthy controls. The predicted microbiome community functions in mucosa and lumen were calculated, and the metabolites in the key altered metabolism pathways were validated by targeted metabolomics profiling. Cynomolgus monkeys were divided into the following 2 groups (n = 5 in each group): (1) control group, and (2) CUMS group. The CUMS stress procedure was adapt from rodent studies. The CUMS group was exposed to seven days of chronic unpredictable mild stressors followed by a four-day behavior observation period; this regimen was conducted for five cycles. The level of 34 metabolites were measured in luminal contents by targeted metabolomics profiling. |
