Title | Ventromedial prefrontal cortex/anterior cingulate cortex Glx, glutamate, and GABA levels in medication-free major depressive disorder |
Overall design | In this study, the authors examined ventromedial prefrontal cortex/anterior cingulate cortex (vmPFC/ACC) Glx (combination of glutamate and glutamine) and glutamate levels using 1H MRS in 34 medication-free, symptomatic, chronically ill major depressive disorder patients (MDD group) and 32 healthy volunteers (control group), and GABA levels in a subsample. Metabolite quantification was reported relative to N-acetyl-L-aspartic acid or total creatine as the reference peak. |
