Title

Multimodal magnetic resonance imaging and therapeutic intervention with Yi-nao-jie-yu decoction in a rat model of post-stroke depression

Overall design

The aim of this study was to use the MR techniques to evaluate changes in post-stroke depression (PSD) and Yi-nao-jie-yu decoction-treated rats. The PSD model employed isolation housing in combination with a 3-week chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) paradigm following the middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) operation. Wistar rats were divided into the following 4 groups (n = 6 in each group): (1) control group, (2) PSD group (MCAO with CUMS stress), (3) PSD + Yi-nao-jie-yu decoction group (MCAO and CUMS stress, with Yi-nao-jie-yu decoction treatment at the dose of 25 mg/kg), and (4) CUMS group (sham MCAO, with CUMS stress). The Nacetyl aspartate/creatine, choline/creatine, glutamate/creatine, and myo-inositol/creatine ratios in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus were determined using MRS for comparisons between group.
