Title

Serum metabolomics reveals compatibility rules of the antidepressant effects of Xiaoyaosan and its efficacy groups

Overall design

In this study, the chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) depression-like model was constructed. Afterwards, Xiaoyaosan was divided into the Shugan and the Jianpi groups according to the research strategy of efficacy groups. Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into the following 4 groups (n = 6 in each group): (1) control group, (2) CUMS group, (3) CUMS + venlafaxine group (stressor plus venlafaxine treatment at the dose of 35 mg/kg), and (4) CUMS + Xiaoyaosan group (stressor plus Xiaoyaosan treatment at the dose of 46.3 g/kg). The CUMS stress procedure lasted for 4 weeks, and drugs were administered via intragastric once per day during the model building period. A proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry-based serum metabolomics was applied.
