Long-term stability and characteristics of behavioral, biochemical, and molecular markers of three different rodent models for depression

Overall design

The aim of this study was to explore the long-term differences between three mouse models for depression, including chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS), corticosterone model, and olfactory bulbectomy models. C57BL/6 mice were divided into the following 2 groups (n = 30 in each group): (1) control group (no stress), and (2) CUMS group (a variety of unpredictable mild stressors). Behavioral tests were performed at two, three, and five weeks after model induction. 5-Hydroxytryptamine and dopamine levels were analyzed in the hippocampus of tested animals (week 3 and 5, n = 10 per group).
