Title

Homeostasis imbalance of microglia and astrocytes leads to alteration in the metabolites of the kynurenine pathway in LPS-induced depressive-like mice

Overall design

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different doses of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on depressive-like behaviors, neuroplasticity, the immune system, and kynurenine pathway in the brain of mice. C57BL/6J mice were divided into the following 2 groups (n = 12 in each group): (1) control group (vehicle), and (2) LPS group (single injection of LPS, 0.8 mg/kg, i.p.). The levels of the two metabolites of the kynurenine pathway, 3-hydroxykynurenine and kynurenic acid, in the brain (cerebral cortex and hippocampus) were analyzed by LC-MS/MS (n = 7 per group).
