Title

Antidepressant-like activities of hispidol and decursin in mice and analysis of neurotransmitter monoamines

Overall design

In this study, behavior tests were performed to evaluate the antidepressive effects of hispidol and decursin in mice. ICR mice were divided into the following 8 groups (n = 7 in each group): (1) hispidol control group (vehicle), (2) hispidol fluoxetine group (fluoxetine treatment at the dose of 15 mg/kg), (3) middle dose of hispidol group (hispidol treatment at the dose of 5 mg/kg), (4) high dose of hispidol group (hispidol treatment at the dose of 15 mg/kg), (5) decursin control group (vehicle), (6) decursin fluoxetine group (fluoxetine treatment at the dose of 15 mg/kg), (7) middle dose of decursin group (decursin treatment at the dose of 5 mg/kg), and (8) high dose of decursin group (decursin treatment at the dose of 15 mg/kg). Drugs were administered by intraperitoneal injection. Behavioral tests, including forced swimming test (FST) and tail suspension test (TST), were performed after 30 min later, respectively. After behavioral tests, neurotransmitter monoamines and metabolites in brain tissues were analyzed by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.
