Title

Brain glutamate in medication-free depressed patients: a proton MRS study at 7 Tesla

Overall design

The aim of the present study was to use magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) at 7 T to assess levels of glutamate and glutamine in un-medicated depressed patients (depression group, n = 55), and age and gender-matched controls (control group, n = 50), in three brain regions, anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), occipital cortex (OCC) and putamen (PUT). Neurometabolites were calculated using the unsuppressed water signal as a reference.
