Title

Neurometabolic characteristics in the anterior cingulate gyrus of Alzheimer's disease patients with depression: a 1H magnetic resonance spectroscopy study

Overall design

The aim of this study was to identify neurometabolic characteristics in the brain that are associated with depression in patients with mild Alzheimer's disease (AD). Thirty-seven patients were evaluated using the Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI) and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-17), and divided into two groups: AD patients with depression (AD with depression group, n = 17) and non-depressed AD patients (AD without depression group, n = 20). Using proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy, neurometabolites in the anterior cingulate gyrus (ACG) of these two group patients were characterized. Metabolite quantification was reported relative to total creatine as the reference peak.
