Title

Proton spectroscopy study of the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex in pediatric depressed patients

Overall design

The aim of this study was to compare the neurochemistry of the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) of children and adolescents suffering from major depressive disorder (MDD) with that of age- and gender-matched healthy controls using used 1H spectroscopy. We conducted single voxel proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H MRS) of the left DLPFC in depressed children and adolescents (depression group, n = 14) and male matched healthy controls (depression group, n = 22). The LC Model software package was used to quantify the 1H metabolites. Reliable metabolites (NAA, PCr + Cr, GPC + PC, Ino, Gln, and Glu) were used in the analysis. Metabolite quantification was reported in absolute concentrations.
