Title

[Preliminary screening of biomarkers for curcumin's antidepressant effect based on metabonomics method]

Overall design

The aim of this study was to screen potential biomarkers of curcumin related to treating depression rats by using metabolomics means, so as to explore the antidepressant action mechanism of curcumin. Rats were divided into the following 4 groups (n = 8 in each group): (1) control group, (2) CUMS group, (3) CUMS + curcumin group (stressor plus curcumin treatment at the dose of 200 mg/kg), (4) CUMS + venlafaxine group (stressor plus venlafaxine treatment at the dose of 40 mg/kg). The CUMS stress procedure lasted for 4 weeks, and drugs were administered via intragastric once per day during the last 2 weeks of model building period. The rat's serum for each group was collected and LC/MS-IT-TOF method was used to characterize the metabolic differences. Six samples per group were used for metabonomic analysis.
