Title

Reduction of kynurenic acid to quinolinic acid ratio in both the depressed and remitted phases of major depressive disorder

Overall design

The aim of this study was to compare the serum concentrations of kynurenine metabolites, measured using high performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry, across unmedicated subjects meeting DSM-IV-TR criteria for MDD (dMDD group, n = 49), unmedicated subjects meeting DSM-IV-TR criteria for rMDD (rMDD group, n = 21), and healthy controls (control group, n = 58). Concentrations of tryptophan, kynurenine, kynurenic acid, 3-hydroxykynurenine, and quinolinic acid were measured.
