Title

Isoalantolactone relieves depression-like behaviors in mice after chronic social defeat stress via the gut-brain axis

Overall design

The aim of this study was to compare the effects of isoalantolactone and fluoxetine on depression-like behaviors in mice exposed to chronic social defeat stress (CSDS). C57BL/6 mice were divided into the following 4 groups (n = 6-8 in each group): (1) control group, (2) CSDS group, (3) CSDS + fluoxetine group (stress with fluoxetine treatment at the dose of 10 mg/kg), and (4) CSDS + isoalantolactone group (stress with isoalantolactone treatment at the dose of 10 mg/kg). The CSDS stress procedure lasted for 10 days, and drugs were administered via intragastric once per day for 5 days after stress. Short‑chain fatty acid levels in fecal samples were measured using GC-MS.
