Title

Biochemical metabolism in the anterior cingulate cortex and cognitive function in major depressive disorder with or without insomnia syndrome

Overall design

The aim of this study was to explore the effects of insomnia symptoms in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) by comparing cognitive function indices among those with insomnia symptoms, those without insomnia symptoms, and healthy controls. MDD patients with insomnia symptoms (MDD with insomnia symptoms group; n =55), MDD without insomnia symptoms (MDD without insomnia symptoms group; n =39), and demographically matched healthy controls (control group; n =47) underwent proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The ratio of N-acetyl-aspartate/creatinine-phosphocreatine and choline-containing compounds/creatinine-phosphocreatine in bilateral anterior cingulate cortex was used to analyze brain biochemical changes.
